Dr. King in Kinder

So, we are finally back after our mega-extended vacation. After Christmas and New Year’s we in Buffalo, NY were lucky to be part of the “Polar Vortex” that blew across much of the country. I’ll be honest, I almost forgot what it was like to put real clothes on after living in my sweats for 2 1/2 weeks.

I did, however, use (some) of my time wisely in between naps cleaning the toy bomb that is Christmas lounging around and doing much of nothing! I planned a mini unit on Dr. Martin Luther King that I knew would be just right for my little kinders. We began the unit last week (the paused for a snow day) continued early this week (the paused for another 2 snow days), then continued again today and will finish up tomorrow. It was perfect and it was really amazing the connections they were able to make to their lives and how important Dr. King was in bringing about important changes to our country. We had some rich discussions about Dr. King’s dream. The kids couldn’t believe that not long ago there were such terrible laws in our country. I think they will leave this week knowing that Dr. King was a true hero.

If you are interested in using this unit in your classroom you can find it here in my TpT shop:
